Trio explores a love triangle of two women, a French teacher, and her assistant, and one young man, a student. It is often referred to as an early lesbian pulp novel. Baker and her husband made the novel into a play, but it was quickly taken off Broadway on grounds of obscenity, because of its lesbian themes.
